Visits, Walks and Talks

Visit to a Sculptor's Garden in Eyam, Derbyshire

Our events team provides us with some wonderful experiences., organising visits to gardens less well known, perhaps very rarely opened.

On these visits, often it is the owner or head gardener who will show us round.  Hearing the stories behind the garden provides a whole new dimension to the visitor experience. It's not surprising that our summer garden visits are very popular. Our regular Newsletter includes short reports about visits and also winter talks and will give you a better idea of the range of events. Members are also encouraged to contribute text and photos for these. Please look through our Newsletter archive and you will be able to read all about these fantastic events.

Yes, we are arranging some long-awaited garden visits!
The Events Group is pleased to let you know at last of some forthcoming garden visits and a social event! For more than twelve months we have not been able to meet up either on garden visits or at our winter series of talks. The zoom talks have been very successful and we are hoping to organize a further series next winter. But we would all love to return to our lovely garden visits over the summer months.

On Thursday 15th July we are arranging a group visit to Tattenhall Hall outside Chester, a visit originally organized to take place in 2020. We are grateful to the owners for welcoming us after such a long delay.

Then on Saturday 14th August we are excited to arrange a social for members with a return visit to Sandymere,Cotebrook, John Timpson’s beautiful garden, visited in 2016. Many thanks to John Timpson and CGT member and Head Gardener, Rachel Pemberton for enabling this welcome event to take place.

We are all so thrilled with the recent opening of RHS Bridgewater and many of you have been privileged to have made an early visit. The Events Group is pleased to let you know that a CGT Group Visit to Bridgewater has been provisionally arranged for Thursday 7th October at 2pm.  Further details and booking arrangements of this and a further possible garden visit to take place in September, will be made available at the beginning of August. In the meantime, we are sure you would wish to save the date

As you will acknowledge, we have been very conscious of the need to ensure that these visits, whilst enjoyable, take place in a healthy and safe manner.  We are mindful of government advice and urge you all to take personal responsibility in relation to social distancing, and the availability of personal  face masks and sanitisers if required .

We hope you have a lovely summer of visiting beautiful gardens and we look forward to meeting you soon. And, as we always say, do book early to avoid disappointment.

All best wishes from the Events Team             events@cheshire-gardens-trust.org.uk

The CGT Events Group was forced to cancel our visit to the lovely garden at Tattenhall Hall in 2020 but we are so pleased that we have been able to rearrange the visit for 15th July 2021.

Tattenhall Hall garden has been made with love and enthusiasm and the owners are pleased to share its history, discuss plants and planting and guide us around. This 4.5 acre garden surrounds an impressive Jacobean house with so many different areas and themes to explore. Teas will be served on the yew terrace which has open views to the hills and there is seating on the large circular lawn where the colour themed borders can be enjoyed.  There are wildflower meadows, a vegetable garden, a walled garden, a large pond and winding paths along a stream through natural wildlife and woodland areas

The garden opens through the National Garden Scheme and the owners follow all the guidance given for a safe visit.  The garden is generally accessible but please be aware that there are gravel paths, cobbles, some steps and uneven paths around the wildlife area.  There is a downstairs toilet available to use.

We hope you will share our enthusiasm for arranging a group garden visit. We are required
to be mindful of government guidance and urge everyone to take personal responsibility for their own safety by carrying their own face mask and sanitiser, if needed, and observing social distancing if the risk from COVID remains.
